ASCENDO GmbH was founded in 1999 by Norbert Heinz, Stefan Köpf and Jürgen Scheuring. Jürgen Scheuring - digital audio technology, and Heinz and Köpf - electroacoustic transducers. Their penchant for perfectionism, the desire to question established knowledge and the joy of exploring new approaches are still strong links for all three.
The entire founding capital was invested in advanced measuring technology. It all started with extensive fundamental research into the ideal speaker. These studies focused on the area of human auditory physiology: how we hear. Similarly, the interaction between the speaker and the room, which is necessary for good sound, was examined. In parallel with this research, the best woofers, midranges and tweeters were carefully tested and measured, and all available speaker technologies were tested using already good-sounding prototypes.
Conventional acoustic technologies cannot achieve the important characteristics of an ideal driver: perfect synchronization and high efficiency.
This finding became the starting point of an extended evolutionary project that included the development of Ascendo SASB loudspeaker technologies, VTA and the DASK room acoustics processor. With financial support from the Federal Ministry of Research and Technology and with the support of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg, the goal was to develop technologies for the realization of loudspeakers with an ideal time response and, at the same time, very high efficiency. Two innovative technologies SASB and VTA are patented.
At the same time, DASK and the TacT processor were introduced. These are the world's first processors for room acoustics based on an FIR filter.
1999
Marks the beginning of the ASCENDO story with System MS and System K.
2000
Followed System Z-S.
2001
System E.
2003
The ZF3 and System MF2 systems were first introduced.
2004
The System E MKII version was launched.
2009
Followed System F, successor to System E.
2012
Has been available The MKII System F version.
2013
System M5 and System Z5 replaced System M and System Z, by then in the fourth stage of development.
2015
The company created a separate division for the production of cinema solutions - AIA ASCENDO IMMERSVE AUDIO. Today, top home theaters around the world use AIA branded immersive speaker systems. As a foundation - technologies for achieving better sound and acoustic perfection: coaxial speakers, proprietary room correction software, DSP digital sound processors in active versions of speakers, advanced network functions.
Amplifiers built into active speakers are also sold separately - in both rack and cabinet form factors. The catalog also includes a wide range of highly efficient multi-channel power amplifiers for cinemas with configurations from 2 to 16 channels, power up to 3000 Watts per channel, with the ability to connect in bridge mode and operate using the Dante protocol - a technology that is gradually coming to equipment for the home market from professional audio.
